COMMUNITY NOTICE — BIG BOI FRY-BREAD

I’m asking our community for help keeping an eye on Big Boi Fry-Bread.

A former business partner who is no longer authorized to be on the property has repeatedly come to the restaurant, attempted to enter, taken property, and damaged things. Most recently, the face of our mascot was cut out of our sign.

I have notified him that he is not permitted on the property, and the landlord and police have also been made aware of the situation. We are installing cameras to document future incidents.

If you see someone damaging Big Boi Property or trying to break in please record and report to the police.

Nobody should get away with stealing from our community, yet he already has. I’m asking our community to help make sure the truth is documented and that there is accountability for what happens next.

With how incredibly busy these last couple of weeks have been, I’ve decided that I’m going to take September 28th off for my birthday — my champagne birthday! 🥂

I apologize in advance for any inconvenience that may cause, but I think after everything you’ve all helped us get through lately, I can afford to give myself one day. 😂

Seriously though, I just want to say thank you.

The amount of food we’ve been going through lately has been incredible. We’ve gone through 30+ litres of chili, even more Three Sisters Soup, and LOTS and LOTS of strawberry water.

It’s been amazing to see people coming back, bringing friends, ordering catering, sharing posts, and just continuing to support Big Boi.

I’m one person running a very busy little operation, and seeing how much food you’ve all been helping us move has genuinely meant a lot.

So thank you for keeping me busy, keeping the fryers going, and giving me a pretty damn good reason to take a birthday off. ❤️

September 28th: Big Boi is closed.

A little earlier than planned tonight!

As we’ve been letting everyone know throughout the week, we’ll be closing a little earlier than usual tonight so we can get ready for the powwow tomorrow.

We will not be open tomorrow, September 18th, as we’ll be taking the day to attend the powwow. Come join us at CAMH POW-WOW

✨ THE NEW BIG BOI MENU IS HERE! ✨

After a few months of using that dreadful AI-generated menu 😭, we’re finally able to show off something we’re genuinely proud of.

Our new menu was 100% designed by an Indigenous student right here in Toronto. No AI. No templates. Just talent, creativity, and a whole lot of hard work.

Huge thank you to Marrissa Weeks-Dame for bringing our food and our vision to life. She doesn’t have social media (honestly… huge props for that 😂), but she gave us permission to share her name so she can get the credit she deserves for this incredible work.

Supporting Indigenous artists, students, and young creatives is a big part of what Big Boi is about. So when we can put money and opportunities directly into the hands of our community, that’s exactly what we want to do.

🔥 BIG BOI FRY-BREAD IS HIRING! 🔥

I’m looking for 1–2 Indigenous youth (under 29) who are interested in learning how to cook and work in a small Indigenous-owned food business.

No resume required. No professional experience required.
I’m willing to train the right people from the ground up. I just need you to know your way around a good piece of bannock. 😂

So here’s the interview:

🌽 We talk, you get a free meal either way

Being finished or out of high school is preferred, but it’s not an absolute requirement.

I don’t know exactly how many hours I’ll be able to offer everyone right off the hop, but I’m going to need some help soon as Big Boi keeps growing.

📢 BIG BOI FRY BREAD — SEPTEMBER CLOSURES

Alright y’all, Big Boi is trying this crazy thing called planning ahead 😂

I’ve been known to randomly close with little to no notice when life gets crazy, so here’s the heads-up:

💤 Every Sunday: CLOSED
Gotta have at least one day to rest and avoid burning myself out. Open Monday–Saturday!

🥁 September 18: CLOSED AT OUR REGULAR LOCATION
We’ll be at the CAMH Pow-Wow instead! Come grab some fry bread, experience some culture, learn something new, and support mental health. ❤️

🛹 KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN — IVY SKATE CO.

The first two boards were bought by me a little while ago and should be finishing up soon, with two more boards being purchased soon!

Each board is purchased by me, painted by an Indigenous youth artist and sold through Big Boi, with the profits split 50/50 between the artist and Big Boi.

Because Big Boi isn't just about fry bread. It’s about creating opportunities for Indigenous youth who don't always get them and finding ways to give them experience and paid work in all kinds of fields. ❤️

Otherwise, Big Boi is cooking Monday–Saturday! Noon to 4pm 🍞🔥

While I was writing a post about how close we were to 200 meals bought, someone went ahead and bought 6 more for our tally! 💜

That puts Take a Meal, Leave a Meal at:

I started this program because I wanted to show that helping someone doesn’t always have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s as simple as buying an extra meal and leaving it there for someone who needs it.

202 meals bought. 184 people fed. And we’re just getting started. 💜
