One of the hardest parts of being a one-woman business? There’s no one to call in sick to. 🤍
When I say ‘Homemade by Melissa’, I really mean it, it’s actually just me, Melissa.
I’m the one baking every batch. Packing every bag. Filling every order. Restocking retailers. Loading the car. Making deliveries. Setting up at markets. Standing behind the table. Packing it all back up again… and doing it all over the next week.
And most of the time, I genuinely love that this little business is so hands-on and personal.
But the last few weeks have shown me the harder side of doing it all alone.
When I got injured, there wasn’t someone else who could simply take over. Orders still needed to be filled. Retailers still needed stock. Markets were still coming. And knowing that people were waiting on me while my body was telling me I needed to stop has been really, really hard.
I hate letting people down. I hate saying I can’t. And I’m definitely not very good at resting when there’s a to-do list sitting beside me.
But healing requires rest. And sometimes running a business means recognizing that taking care of the person behind the business has to be part of the job too.
So right now, I’m doing what I can, when I can. I’m baking. I’m catching up. I’m showing up where my body allows me to, and I’m resting when it tells me I need to. My retailers, wholesalers and customers have been so amazing to me over the last few weeks, showing me patience, kindness and understanding as I reschedule deliveries, take time to answer messages, and balance baking, delivering and healing.
Things may move a little slower around here for a bit, but I promise the same care is going into every single batch.
Thank you for giving me the grace to be both Melissa the business owner and Melissa the human. 🤎
It means more than you know.
