Preserving the Beauty of the Forest

Stanley Park’s forest has long been one of Vancouver’s most beloved natural sanctuaries — a place where towering evergreens, filtered sunlight, and birdsong create a living tapestry of West Coast beauty. But in recent years, that beauty was threatened by the quiet devastation of the Western Hemlock Looper moth.

As the moths defoliated the trees, particularly the delicate Western Hemlocks, large portions of the forest began to fade — trees once full of life stood bare and brittle, their branches gray against the green canopy.

To protect both the park’s visitors and the forest’s future, crews were carefully dispatched to remove dead and dying trees. Though the sight of felled trees can be jarring, the work was done with great respect for the land — guided by arborists and ecologists who understand the balance between safety, restoration, and natural beauty.

Third Beach on a Rainy Day: A Cozy Idea

Imagine this: it's a drizzly afternoon at Stanley Park, the rain softly tapping on the ground, and there you are, under the shelter of a marquee tent on the patio in front of the Third Beach concession. The air is fresh, crisp, and full of energy, thanks to the negative ions that the rain brings—those wonderful particles that lift your mood and make everything feel just a bit more vibrant.

Now picture yourself with a hot, steaming bowl of ramen, the kind of dish that warms you from the inside out. The noodles, rich broth, and hearty toppings are just the thing you need on a wet, cozy day like this. Food always tastes better outdoors, doesn't it? Maybe it's the freedom of the open air, the sounds of nature, or just the break from the usual. There's something magical about enjoying a meal while surrounded by the beauty of the park.

Wouldn't a couple of tents make this experience even better? A place to stay dry while still being connected to the natural charm of the beach, with the rain falling gently around you.
