It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of El Segundo. Our final day of service will be Sunday, January 12th. š
The most painful part of this decision is letting down our amazing team. Most of our staff have been with us for years, and many have been with us since the beginning. They are a joyful, genuine and hardworking crew - who have always leaned in with love and support to their peers and to us.
The past five years have been a challenging road for restaurants, especially for those like ours, which opened at the start of COVID. We faced an uphill battle from the beginning and unlike many established businesses, new ones like ours were excluded from the same government support for wages and rent. We advocated tirelessly for changeānot just for ourselves but for others in the same positionābut unfortunately, it wasnāt enough. This was followed by inflation that further strained profitability.
Finally, a 25% drop in tourism this year delivered the final blow. Tourists have always been a huge part of what kept our little restaurant thriving. El Segundo has been featured in countless travel blogs, celebrated by visitors, and loved as a staple of the coastal experience. When a quarter of our business disappeared, it became clear we wouldnāt have the financial runway to weather the quieter months.
To our wonderful staff and incredible regulars: THANK YOU. These years have been filled with joy, hilarity, and a shared love of bringing something bold to our small town. We hope youāll join us for one more meal or drink before January 12th.
Please show your love by leaving us a review with your favourite El Segundo memory or a positive experienceāitās like a meaningful postcard to our staff. This isnāt goodbye forever.
With the same heart but a new beat, weāll be launching something new here in the spring. ššš
