JAME LECLAIRE

BIO

James Leclaire is a Canadian based singersongwriter who mixes folk, rock, classic country, roots, and blues to conjure up his own unique style of storytelling. Although his music often pulls from the hardships of life, whether it be relationships, addictions, inner demons, or depression, his gravely voice cuts a deep feeling of hope and determination. Whether his songs are layered thick with allegories and metaphors or straightforward and direct, James’ songs resonate relatability and realism.
Storytelling has always been at the forefront of James' life. On Oct 1st, 2025, after a successful career in animation as a storyboard artist, director, writer, series creator, and studio co/founder of Jam Filled Entertainment, James took the leap to pursue his lifelong passion of songwriting and performing full time.
Building up to this integral moment, James recorded 38 songs from 2020-2023 at Bova Sound with Phillip Victor Bova producing. It was here that James was finally able to take his music to the next level. For certain tracks, Phillip was able to bring on harmonicist Mickey Raphael (Nelson/Stapleton/Dylan), guitarist/mandolinist Kevin Breit (Norah Jones), drummer Ed Toth (Doobie Bros.) and Juno nominated pianist and guitarist John Fraser Findlay.
James started releasing singles from these sessions monthly in August 2023. The first 10 compiled to become his 2024 album Come On In, the following 11 became 2025's Self Deconstruction, while the latest 10 singles formed his June 2026 album The Deal.

STYLE DESCRIPTION

From fist pumping, stomp your feet workingman anthems to soulful ballads of love, heartache and loss; James' songs are all about storytelling. Intensely thought-out lyrics grind through raspy vocal chords with powerful emotion to produce rich, dark imagery that can really punch you in the heart.

QUOTES

“What ties everything together is Leclaire’s voice. There’s a heaviness in it that can’t be manufactured. Not performative grit, but the kind that comes from decades of experience. His gravel-toned delivery carries the weight of every lyric, making each song feel lived-in rather than simply performed.”

“James tackles different kinds of inner thought and a little bit of struggle, a little heartbreak, and more but this all adds to the realness and gives him that human touch” - Buzzslayers

“This album(Come On In) is incredibly connective, and it's been quite some time since I've heard a full album like this that pulled me away from my surroundings and put me into someone else's world for a good chunk of time.” - Buzzslayers

“Self Deconstruction isn’t just an album you listen to — it’s one you feel. James Leclaire writes with heart, soul, and delivers each performance with unflinching conviction. This record is a testament to the power of honest storytelling and the healing potential of art.” – Stevie Connor, The Sound Cafe

“Self Deconstruction is not polished pop. It is not easy listening. It is real, personal, and deeply affecting. James Leclaire does not sugarcoat the pain. He transforms it into something meaningful and unforgettable.”- Jennifer Gutton, BUZZMUSIC LA

What makes the album resonate is its refusal to simplify difficult emotions. Leclaire writes about self-destruction, spirituality, relationships, and isolation without chasing easy answers. Even in its darkest moments, the record remains grounded in empathy rather than cynicism.
-Victoria Pfeifer-Buzzmusic LA

"He’s the Dave Grohl of Ottawa country music...the songs just soar."
-The R***e

"...he sings with a mix of Bob Dylan and Steve Earle. It’s a phenomenal mix of country/folk/blues."
-Martyr Magazine

"...the album is a true marriage of genres, a hybrid with each style adding to the final results without compromising its fuel source."
-The Alternate Root
