Whether you’re filling up from a tap or collecting water in the backcountry, make sure it’s safe to drink before preparing your meal. If needed, filter or purify it first.

There are still places where there are no roads, no cell service, no shelters. Just wilderness and the remnants of the past.

During summer 2025, Louise and Justin spent three months cycling across British Columbia, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories with one goal in mind: the legendary Canol Heritage Trail. Built during World War II to service an oil pipeline, this former military road has long since been reclaimed by nature.

Ten days to cover 350 km through landscapes that were as breathtaking as they were unforgiving. On the Canol, riding wasn’t an option. They pushed their bikes through rocky riverbeds, waded waist-deep through bogs and trekked in freezing rain. Some days, they covered as little as four kilometres.

Then came the hunger. Realizing they wouldn’t reach their next resupply in time, they had to ration their food while twelve-hour days of relentless effort stretched on.

And then there was the grizzly. Standing just ten metres away. A few long seconds locked in each other’s gaze... before it finally turned and walked away.

Between portages, a SLY meal became one of the few moments to pause, refuel and catch their breath.

They finished the Canol Trail. Few people ever make it there, even fewer by bike.

Eight days of living on El Cap : climbing chimneys, moving through alcoves, and waiting for the right weather window to attempt a free ascent of Freerider.

On a wall like this, logistics are an integral part of the climb. Every gram hauled up the mountain has to earn its place. Eating well, replenishing reserves, and restoring energy are essential to life on the wall, allowing you to keep moving, day after day, and continue the adventure.

This time, Jerome St-Michel didn’t complete the free ascent. But those eight days on the wall were filled with effort, adaptation, and valuable lessons on one of the world’s most demanding routes.
Some adventures end at the summit. Others bring us back to the base of the wall with more experience, renewed motivation, and the desire to return. The rest is still to be climbed. 🧗‍♂️

Huit jours à vivre sur El Cap. À grimper des cheminées, traverser des alcôves et attendre la bonne fenêtre météo pour tenter l’enchaînement de Freerider en libre.

Sur une paroi comme celle-là, la logistique fait partie intégrante de l’ascension. Chaque gramme hissé doit mériter sa place. Bien s’alimenter, refaire ses réserves et retrouver son énergie sont essentiels à la vie verticale pour avancer jour après jour et continuer l’aventure.

Cette fois, Jérôme St-Michel n’a pas réussi l’enchaînement. Mais ces huit jours sur la paroi auront été remplis d’efforts, d’adaptation et d’apprentissages sur l’une des voies les plus exigeantes au monde.
Certaines aventures se terminent au sommet et d’autres nous ramènent au pied de la paroi avec plus d’expérience, une motivation renouvelée et l’envie d’y retourner. La suite reste à grimper. 🧗‍♂️
