Caroline's Caravan

Caroline's Caravan July 4-5: 11:30 am to 3 pm
Fun and tiny trailer serving up Malaysian and Chinese foods on Route 170 and Old Bay Road across the Red Rooster.

I also operate as the "Satay Queen" at Saint Andrews Market.

Thanks to whoever braved the heat on Saturday. I even had to turn off an oven to reduce heat generation. Going forward, on 30C+ days, I'll probably switch to late afternoon to early evening hours and will post updates. I now understand I took an unnecessary risk to open on Saturday during a heat wave! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Special thanks to the young man with a top hat who tried Sunday's beef rendang and was able to handle the spice and flavour. 🫡

Hey guys, I'm back this weekend July 4-5 from 11:30 to 3pm and this time, with the grill out back! Also, the trailer has been fixed🤞. I'm implementing a simpler board style menu system because the current fixed one isn't working. This weekend I'll have a pulled pork satay Asian Bao slider snack. I will always have a grilled satay chicken thigh+peanut sauce combo (rice noodle or coconut lemongrass), Cantonese pork and shrimp dumplings, and beef & potato curry puffs. Other items I switch out based on equipment space. But I am working on including another Cantonese dim sum item, perhaps on a future Sunday. It's a long road and I hope to get there! Thanks for following and feel free to DM me. 🫶😅

Hey my lovely peeps, unfortunately I have to cancel this weekend June 27-28 to do some minor fixes to the trailer and equipment. Being new at this, I learned that vibration (from the bumps and lumps of the roads) isn't exactly friendly to anything inside a trailer🤦🏻‍♀️. Thanks for understanding and hope to see you the following weekend! 👋🏻

You want peanut sauce and satay flavours? You got it! To some of the folks who've waited a few weeks for the return of the peanut sauce and the satay, here you go. It's street hawker style where fragrant aromatic sauce is poured on rice noodles. It's gluten-free, but please exercise caution if you have allergies as my tiny trailer is not wheat-free. I'll be posting Friday late afternoon to evening hours on my page soon.

Hey folks, I decided to switch out the Cantonese BBQ pork bun for now and add the actual Chinese BBQ chicken instead. The redness is from rose-scented fermented red bean curd (for umami) and not food colouring. Meat-based combos will now come with chicken instead of mini veggie spring roll.

I'm still working on re-adding the satay & peanut sauce flavours that I'm known for at the markets, but it's coming.

Thanks!
Caroline

Thanks for coming out last weekend! It allowed me to test some equipment and get to know more people (especially the Oak Bay-ers and Dufferin-ers 😉). I've been updating the menu to make it easier for me and meatier for you. Meaty menu update coming tomorrow! Also, to my friend Jordan and Ron of Salty Dawg Enterprises, thank you for your continued support as I learn and grow. Thank you kindly for trying me out.

During this weekend Jun 6-7 lunch hours (11:15ish - 3pm) I'll be offering the chicken rendang. It is creamy, nutty and scented with lemongrass and Makrut lime leaf with a ginger zing and tamarind tang. Just a few whole spices are used but more importantly, it doesn't leak in a takeout container! Chicken rendang is lighter and brighter than its beef counterpart. It's eaten as a heavy brunch with pandan-leaf scented coconut rice in SE Asia. In the combo with the Cantonese dumplings, you're getting a fusion of Chinese and SE Asian brunch/lunch foods 😜.

I'm aware that consistency of hours is key so even if it rains on Sunday, I'll be around. I'll be adding a physical sign on the lot soon to show my hours. Hope to see you there!

Hello everyone, thanks for supporting me this weekend ❤️. This coming week June 6-7, I will keep the Saturday and Sunday lunch hours from 11:30 am until mid- afternoon.

I will have better/longer Sunday hours soon(!) and make adjustments as I go along. You don't build Rome in a day so appreciate your understanding.

To clarify some things:
- I grew up in a Malaysian-Chinese household, that's why the menu is a bit of a hybrid. Malaysia is a Commonwealth nation made up of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and some Europeans.
- I ate a lot of Cantonese Chinese dim sum growing up in a big city of Canada. I love that stuff.
- I have no other home besides Route 170 and Old Bay Road (gravel turn-off across Red Rooster).

Thanks,
Caroline
