I realized recently it was December 2015 when I got my first real paid cleaning job! As I get closer to 10 years I think it's a good time to post an update on my business, experience, ethics, and maybe even a photo of who I am 🩷
I took this job reluctantly, frustrated that I was struggling so hard to learn French and desperate for a stable job. I had zero experience cleaning, was a young mother raised by a single father and cleaning was never a taught skill or priority in my life.
Nearly 10 years later, I have fallen deeply in love with this job. It's not that I love to clean toilets or am gifted at folding fitted sheets. It's that I absolutely love taking care of people. I love seeing how people live, learning who they are and how they need to be cared for, and when I understand their needs and how they need to be supported is when I can work my magic. The more I learn about them the more I learn about myself. For example I've learned I have auditory processing disorder which is why I have been unable to learn French, and have been able to share the knowledge of this disability with two households who also benefited from learning about it!
My clients are all different, I've worked for doctors, lawyers, writers, burlesque dancers, artists, hair dressers (plus 2 local salons), baristas, chefs and restaurant owners, dominatrixes, comedians, famous graffiti muralists, students, pornhub executives, massage therapists, activists, and many many people in video games (including a video games studio for a couple of years!).
Through all these years I've learned how to intuit what people need to make their homes feel functional to help their mental health and let them feel less stress.
I've been trusted to see people when they are most vulnerable, through breakups and breakdowns, moves and losses, through joyful celebration, promotions, engagements, new additions to the family, changes of every kind. Seeing how people live their lives inspires me to put so much love and thought into my work, every client deserves consideration and care.
What I've learned from people and the way they live is, no matter your amount of privilege, no matter your mental health or income, we all are humans who need to feel taken care of, especially through a pandemic and into our "new normal" of 2024. Whether that's an organized knife drawer and spice shelf for a chef or neatly folded drawers of clothes for an overworked underpaid single parent, we are all looking for the ease of organization and cleanliness to make our lives function more smoothly.
Through my vast array of client experience and my own personal life, I've come to excel in helping clients who have ADHD, are neurodivergent, or who struggle with their mental health.
I prioritize clients who are people of colour and/or LGBTQIA2S+, and am especially interested in homes located near Little Italy.
I reserve a minimum of 2 days a month which are donated hours, I am currently prioritizing activists involved in: fighting for a Free Palestine, Jews against Genocide, or any Trans Rights. If you or anyone you know would benefit from this please don't hesitate to ask for this service! (There is no qualification, it's an honour system)
I also offer personalized cleaning lessons and organization services (my secret superpower✨).
I am shy about asking clients to take pictures in their homes and quite honestly I'm not good at updating my social media or advertising, I have relied almost exclusively on personal references since 2018. But I have extensive references and photos available to anyone!
My standards fees:
I have a minimum of 3hrs for $125, then it's $35/hr after that
My home organization fees are $45-65/hr
Cleaning includes laundry washing and folding, bedding washed and changed, bathrooms, light organization, kitchen, dusting and tidying all surfaces, mirrors, vacuuming and mopping.
*Please understand I work efficiently, practice accountability, am trustworthy, and have extensive experience and perfect references which is included in these prices
**These prices are negotiable, but whenever possible I strive to keep these as the minimum to ensure I can donate hours to those in need as often as possible. For full transparency, I average $2000/a month, which is minimum wage
I am deeply grateful for all the trust and vulnerability that's been shared with me, I love this job more and more every year. I believe that by taking care of each other we are taking care of ourselves and bettering our community 🩷🩷
