As you may have heard, Colombia was struck by a devastating earthquake earlier this week. Colombia holds a special place in our hearts, as it is where Apex began and is home to some of our most meaningful projects and relationships.

While most of the producers and partners we work with are outside of the affected zones, the earthquake has impacted parts of the supply chain, including some warehouses, facilities and ports we use every harvest. We are monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as needed.

Our thoughts are with the individuals, families, and communities who have been severely affected. We stand with Colombia and send our deepest sympathies, strength, and hope during this difficult time.

In Guatemala, El Brujo Project began with a simple question: could the coffees produced by small farmers around Finca El Llano reach beyond the traditional local market?

Finca El Llano is located in El Socorro, in Acatenango region, a small village of around 2,500 people, where most families are smallholder farmers. For generations, many have sold their coffee cherries to local intermediaries, with prices generally following the C-Market. While this is a familiar way of moving coffee through the community, it also means that producers have limited control over how their coffee is valued.

A few years ago, some producers approached Raul Pérez after noticing visitors coming to the farm. They wondered if there was a way for their coffee to reach those same buyers. Raul contacted Julie to ask if we could be interested in working with some local smallholders from his village. We decided to give it a try. This harvest, the Perez family started collaborating with a selected group of producers, processing their coffees at the La Soledad wet mill and helping them understand their potential in terms of quality, volume, consistency and profile.

This year marks the first time El Brujo is being presented as a regional lot, bringing together coffees from small producers in and around El Socorro under one identity.
The name comes from an old local legend: a Brujo, or wizard, is said to hide somewhere in the mountains surrounding El Socorro, watching over the land and protecting the community from evil spirits. Whether guardian or legend, El Brujo represents something tangible: the connection between the people of El Socorro and the mountains they call home.

This regional lot is now available in GBH ans Seaforth warehouses. Contact us for a sample.

Some producers make you feel at home the moment you meet. That’s Cesar Higueros.

Cesar Higueros is a magnetic and warm-hearted producer, known for his constant smile, witty sense of humour, and optimistic approach to everything he takes on. Julie has known him for over ten years, and was the first buyer to contract his coffee with specialty premiums destined to be sold as a single origin. Today, this marks Apex’s fourth harvest working with Finca La Unión.

Over the past few years and alongside his wife Nora, Cesar has been able to invest in modernizing the farm, including the construction of a new wet mill and parabolic drying beds, while preserving the warm, welcoming spirit that defines the place.

When asked about what makes his farm successful, Cesar’s answer isn’t a processing method or a variety. It’s the families of pickers who return year after year, the abundant spring water surrounding the farm, and the passion shared by everyone involved. At the end of every harvest, Cesar and Nora always organize a big celebration to thank the farm workers and pickers around a large feast.

If you’ve ever visited La Unión, chances are you’ve left with more than great coffee.

Our latest field blend from La Unión is about to land, offering a classic profile with plenty of sweetness, roundness and balance.

Some coffee farms produce great coffee. Others redefine what a coffee farm can be.

This harvest marks our fourth season working with Finca La Hermosa, but the relationship started long before. Julie, Apex’s co-owner, first met Max Perez and Claudia ten years ago during her first sourcing trip in Guatemala.
Fifteen years ago, the couple acquired and transformed an abandoned piece of land into a farm built around one idea: coffee can be both exceptional and regenerative.
Coming from a fifth generation coffee family in Huehuetenango, Max combines tradition with a modern entrepreneurial mindset. Together, he and Claudia continue to invest in exotic coffee varieties, earning recognition through Cup of Excellence competitions while constantly improving the farm’s environmental impact. Today, 75% of the farm is organic, intending to reach 100% within the next five years.

Coffee isn’t the only thing produced at La Hermosa. Five years ago, they added an egg farm that now houses 25,000 chickens. The eggs support the local market and farm workers, while the manure becomes part of the organic compost that feeds the coffee trees, closing the loop between every part of the farm.

Our container arrives soon, with both a field blend and a nanolot of honey processed Sidra, still available.

ARRIVAL ALERT: ETHIOPIA HAS LANDED

Our Ethiopia lots have arrived at GBH depot. Once again, we’ve focused on single station lots, from washed lots to natural, with a few specially prepared experimentations sourced from some of the most exciting regions for quality coffee in Ethiopia. This year’s selection also offers a range of qualities, providing options for a variety of roasting profiles and needs.

Behind these bags, two partners we’re proud to work with: SNAP Specialty Coffee, founded in 2008 in Addis Ababa by Negusse Debela, running washing stations across Yirgacheffe, Guji and West Arsi, and investing in the smallholder farmers who depend on these land. And Ethio Catalyst, our partner for Sidama coffees, key to establishing Bensa as a globally recognized district for premium coffee, with an innovative, detail-driven approach and a smaller scale of export.

Clean. Sweet. Floral. The true taste of Ethiopia.

Net. Doux. Floral. Le vrai goût de l’Éthiopie.

Built on generations of coffee expertise, Brazil continues to shape the industry through quality and innovation.

Sítio São Bartolomeu has been in the Da Silva family for generations. Today, Paulo Nelci da Silva and his sons, Fábio and Marcelo, continue building on that legacy, combining tradition with new processing techniques to produce exceptional coffees.

Located in the mountains of Mantiqueira de Minas, the farm’s high elevations and careful harvesting contribute to a clean, complex cup that reflects both the region and the family’s dedication to quality.

A limited quantity of Paulo’s coffee is available now from our spot inventory at Seaforth SCS so contact our team for more details.
