A NICE AFTERNOON IN NEWCASTLE
Being new in town and not knowing every place it has to offer one often relies on known places for having coffee or a sandwich, and we can miss spots like the Mill Cove, located in the center of Newcastle, it's a nice spot to hang, read a book, char for hours with a friend of have anything from the long menu of sandwiches, smoothies, cakes and obviously coffee!
We had a Chicken bacon Caesar, a big croissant full of cheese and bacon that leaves you full (we asked another because was so good), a banana, strawberry smoothie, which is super sweet just how I like it, an ok coffee and a wrap that I can't remember now what was in it but I think was pretty ok.
The place is really spacious with a few ambients for spending time with family or friends so it's a good spot for a change of known coffee chains or fast food joints.

Definitely going back.

GOOD TIMES AT THE GOODIE SHOPPE
It was like discovering a secret place that only locals knew about. Since coming here to Miramichi I must have passed through this place hundreds of times and always thought it was an old coffee shop that saw better times in its day. I could never been so wrong. The Goodie Shop Restaurant is one of those places that seem to have retained forever the good in the old days that we all seem to miss. It seems its speciality are breakfasts and they do it really well! We loved our dishes and it's the best coffee I ever had since coming here. Great service and they have a buffet on Saturday and Sundays that I have to try for a second visit. A great spot for locals and a must for newcomers. Have you been here before?

Goodbye to summer!
The sun season came and went and I'm here doing some late posts! Right before the end we visited this Miramichi classic spot, the Maurie's Mini-Putt & Ice Cream and had some delicious ice cream and "played" mini golf (it's not easy!).

It's a great place to hang with what family if you are new here. Just be aware that you have to pay extra for the cubs.
They have 40+ flavors and each season they change and add some different, I tried the mango and Death by chocolate and were awesome and really well served. Sadly they are closed for the season and don't come back until April of 2025. So keep them in mind for next summer!

Icream cones or bowls are from 3 to 6 dollars.

Coffee and a Place to Chill

I don’t think I’m mistaken when I say that Cali.Co Coffee is a modern staple of Miramichi. However, my recent visit left me a bit disappointed. Maybe we just didn’t order the best they had, which has me thinking about what to try next time.

We had a hot chocolate that was okay, two chicken sandwiches that could have been warmed up (they mentioned their oven wasn’t working), and a dessert that wasn’t great.

What was awesome, though, was the place itself. It’s a nice café with plenty of space to chat with friends, play guitar, have some games, or grab a book and spend the afternoon. They even have a "pay what you want" CD bin! (I admit I still collect CDs, so I grabbed two.)

All in all, it’s a nice spot. The menu is quite extensive, and I’ll definitely consider having coffee there next time to see if that changes my perspective.

'Til next time!

END OF SUMMER POUTINE
Summer came and went and had a chance to try Canada's famous poutine. We went to this spot on Ritchie's Wharf called Pookies Donut & Milkshake Cafe who were on its last day and decided to try it after one bad experience in a fast food joint. I had the Pulled Pork Poutine and what's not to live about a big size plate with fries soaked in cheese, BBQ sauce and strips of pork? I know I do loved it and two people can easily eat this while enjoying the warm weather and the river. When it comes to places for tourists or new people in town this is one of the nicest spots out there. Maybe the inside could be a little paint and love but the food is worth it. And plus I got a free ice cream!

They are closed for the season but I hope they come back next summer!

What's your favorite poutine place in Miramichi that you can recommend?

Breakfast at the Rodd Hotel

As a good Latino, I love to eat. And as an immigrant, one has to start discovering and trying new flavors and places that the city has to offer.

With this project i would like to share my experience as a customer with everyone who loves food, going out and have a good time here in Miramichi.

For starters one of those places (and one of our regular spots) is the Rodd Hotel, located in the Chatham district. It has a peaceful, family-friendly atmosphere, with a beautiful view of the river from its indoor lounge and a terrace that, in the summer and with the right weather, is spectacular.

This time, we took the opportunity to try their breakfast menu. We ordered the Two Egg Craftsman and the Dungarvon Whooper (Hint, it's not a burger!) both quite filling and with a pleasant flavor. We also ordered the usual apple juice and a coffee refill which is the better part of having coffee.

A detail we missed is that they have a kid's menu, which is a little different in size, but also quite good given past visits.

The service is great, always with a smile and available. Although we had to wait a little time for the dishes, even though the place wasn’t crowded. It might be something to consider.

It was a good experience, very recommended for special occasions and one we might repeat soon.

The prices range from $15 to $ 20 per person.

If you have any ideas as to where we can go for the next breakfast tell us in the comments!

'Till next time!
