I have made two updates to the article!
Mike's baking got back to me with a great write up about their bakery, website you can check out and gave me some sweet pictures (pun intended)
Atomic Tom's Butter Tarts was listed as a possible gluten free option from the festival (as they brought gluten free tarts last year), but a recent post by the festival has them listed as a current gluten free option! So I added them into the list also. They have not replied to my request for info yet so the information I supplied is based off of answers I got last year.
EDIT: Mike’s Baking got back to me and gave me a much better story about his bakery, some pictures and a link to his website!
If you’re gluten-free and planning to attend the Stittsville Butter Tart Festival on September 12, I made you something that might save you a lot of time.
I won’t be vending at the festival this year, but I know exactly what it feels like to see “gluten-free” advertised at an event, wait in line, finally reach the front…and then discover that the preparation practices aren’t something you’re comfortable with.
So instead of leaving everyone to do that detective work while standing in a crowd, I contacted the participating bakers I could identify and asked questions.
The result is a new The Gluten Free Lady guide to the festival.
Inside, I’ve separated the information as clearly as possible:
💛 Businesses that told me they operate dedicated gluten-free spaces
💛 Businesses that are not dedicated gluten-free, along with the cross-contact precautions they told me they use
💛 Businesses offering gluten-free items that did not provide me with preparation information
That last category is important.
No response does not automatically mean unsafe. It simply means I don't have enough information to tell you how their gluten-free products are prepared.
And this guide is not meant to tell you what you should eat.
Different people have different medical needs and comfort levels. My goal is simply to give you the information I was able to gather before you arrive, so you know which vendors you may want to visit and which questions you may still need to ask.
Because having to investigate every single food option while everyone else just gets to choose what looks delicious gets exhausting.
Hopefully this makes one fun community event a little easier to navigate. 💕

Please share it with someone who is heading to the festival gluten-free.
