🦪❤️🤙🏽One Last Ride.
7 years ago, a chef friend walked through Bayfront Park with a thought: Hamilton wasn't taking seafood seriously.
He said: "imagine someone pulled up with a wagon and some oysters." That spark sent Raffi and I on the craziest oyster side quest of our lives. A few months later: our first pop-up at Collective Arts. Then a second. A third. Then COVID hit, and we drove right into it. Literally.
So we adapted, building "Go Shuck Yourself" kits (oysters, hot sauce, lemon, horseradish, a knife) with a shucking tutorial on IG. It kept us afloat. By May 2020 we pulled up at Bayfront again. Raffi opened the window to 20 people already lined up. People weren't just hungry, they were starving for normalcy in the weirdest time of our lives.
That led to a patio pop-up on Locke St that June: one IG post, no reservations, an 80-person patio filled three nights straight. It didn't work out with the owner, but led us somewhere better. Maddison Avenue gave us a place to regroup. Then Ray from Bar on Locke offered us a home and brokered our lease: he offered one year, we asked for three. Here we are, six years later.
We've shucked your weddings, engagements, and birthdays, thrown pop-ups across Southern Ontario, and ran the unofficial Third Space of Locke St. We hosted the best pop-up alley Supercrawl has ever seen, and a wedding behind this truck. When the BIA tried to push us out, this community showed up for us like never before.
Special thanks: Scott McDonald, for the spray paint and art AI could never generate. Ivan, who kept us jacked up and level, this truck doesn't run without him. Diogo, for the hand-drawn branding we grew to love. And everyone who worked or volunteered.
This truck fed our families and taught us more than we expected. We just wanted people to say "remember when Ramsen and Raffi had that sick food truck?" We couldn't be more proud of what came out of this truck.
The brand isn't going anywhere, catering continue, but this truck, this location, is coming to a prideful end. Our last day is September 30th.
Bring your people. Come sea what's cooking. Let's shuck it up on Locke one last time.
