One of the most common mistakes I see business owners make is trying to be everything to everyone.

It usually comes from a good place.

You don't want to turn away opportunities.

You don't want to limit your audience.

You want to help as many people as possible.

The problem is that when your message tries to speak to everyone, it rarely connects with anyone.

The first business is the one everyone sees:

The product.

The service.

The customers.

The brand.

The bookkeeping.

The follow-up.

The paperwork.

Most people start a business because they're passionate about the first one.

Some people see a problem.

That’s what I’ve always admired about business owners.
They’re willing to bet on an idea before there’s any guarantee it will work.
But building a business takes more than passion.

Passion gets you started.
Discipline keeps you moving.

The entrepreneurs I respect most aren’t just dreamers.
They’re builders.
They have the courage to imagine something different and the determination to make it happen.
