Project Oehsis

Project Oehsis We're building a tropical greenhouse and food forest, which will eventually become a community space, in growing zone 3B. Lemons. Avocados. Long-term vision?

We'd love for you to follow our journey! We're on a mission to build a tropical greenhouse-meets-community space that feels like an escape without having to fly across the world in Zone 3B (aka: the zone where nothing grows for half the year). Here’s the plan:

Phase 1: Buy the land (we’re here now). Phase 2: Build the greenhouse.
↳ Big, warm, tropical vibes.
↳ Bananas. Phase 3: Add a sauna, fire

pit, cozy hang-out corners. Phase 4: Open it up to locals + travelers can...
- reconnect with nature
- eat real food,
- warm up. A full-blown food forest with...
- memberships,
- daily passes,
- a small café,
- maybe even sleepover options. (Greenhouse Airbnb anyone?)

We’re thinking of calling it Zone 3B or Zone 3B Oasis. We don’t have millions of dollars to fund this. Nor do we totally know what we’re doing. But we’re doing it because we want to
- grow our own food
- escape the soul-sucking winters
- build a community around healthy living
- show you how you can do it too (even in Canada). This isn’t just a “business” for us. It’s building the kind of life we want to live. And documenting every step of the journey, so you can follow along on this “unrealistic” journey. If you’ve been watching from a distance, this is your official invite to come closer. We’re bringing you with us. Because this isn’t just our dream anymore. It’s going to be a lot bigger than just us. If you want behind-the-scenes content and first invites...

Project Oehsis Update

Despite all the rain and wind that’s plowed through here recently, all of our fruit tree babies have survived!

Pear and apple trees

Blackberry, mulberry, and haskap bushes

Sea Buckthorn, elderberry, and saskatoons

Even our hazelbert tree! (Who’s ever heard of a hazelbert?)

If you’re new here, my husband and I are building a tropical greenhouse business in the middle of cold-ass Canada—an oasis where we can enjoy nature, even in -40°.

Update! 🌱

We've been driving our truck back and forth to the local dump, filling up with wood chips to spread on our muddy yard.

But we just learned there's a company down the road from us who will rent us a massive dump truck for $100 a day.

Sounds like a fun video to make! Stay tuned!

Weekly update! 👇

Two weeks ago, we planted a bunch of fruit trees — apples, pears, kiwis, and berry bushes.

So far, all of our plant babies are thriving!..Except for the kiwis. Pretty sure those might all.be goners. 😒

Can't wait to start doing this all again this year! 💚🌱

The universe works in mysterious ways.

We connected this week with Trina at Little Greenhouse That Could — a business dedicated to helping people build their own greenhouses.

Match made in heaven? Look for that interview next week!

Project Oehsis Update

We’ve started receiving quotes back on the supplies and contractors we’ll need to build our house next month — and it’s quite shocking how different some of the quotes are.

For example, we received two quotes on the concrete slab job:

Quote 1: $31,000
Quote 2: $76,000.

Same job. Two wildly different prices.
