I’ve come to realize that most of you don’t know the crazy lady running the show we called Stacked!
I’ve gone by so many names (Deborah-Jean, Deborah, Margaret to name a few) but the people who like or love me call me Debbie.
I moved here almost 10 years ago (this October!) with my 3 young boys as a single Mom. The Ng boys … Nick, Zac and Robbie. We moved to Crossfield from Calgary to start a new life. About 6 months after we moved here, I met my next door neighbour Scott. Salty old man… welp..I married him.
A history of why Stacked came to be. Several reasons: Scott’s health declined to the point he was forced to retire, so I started the seed of starting my own bakery. Now… I may not have a vast portfolio of talents…. But damn the girl can cook and bake! So I took my grandma’s recipe books and started creating.
Homemade bread, buns, cinnamon buns…. And magic happened. It took me a long time to convince the salty old man we call Scott that we should sink all our money into my crazy idea. That was the longest sales pitch of my life!
After deciding that the artist formerly known as Deez Video should be our home…. Everyone told me I was crazy. That place was empty for 14 years!!! Who invests that kind of money into something that’s not guaranteed to succeed?
Me.
I wanted to build not just a bakery/restaurant, I wanted to build a piece of our town. A place kids could come to for a homemade breakfast sandwich or drink, where the owner makes your food, where it really is all homemade. And little by little… over the past 4 1/2 years… we’ve become a big part of Crossfield. Sure.. I am quite cute crazy, and there is a 100% chance I will say something either inappropriate or not politically correct… but I also know most people coming through the door. I know your families.
And it’s because of this that during the start of 2026 I realized how much we are a part of this community. After almost losing the salty old man in February, and then the fire at Stacked April 29th… Crossfield and surrounding areas rallied. You guys showed up, and continue to show up. Words cannot describe what that has meant to me. When I felt my most defeated… I had strangers coming in to give words of support. And hugs… I’m a hugger.
So if you ever feel like having the best breakfast sandwich of your life with a side of dark humour…. We’d love to see you. Just watch for the Kissmobile parked in front.
And simply: Thank you.
