🩷 To our amazing customers and community,
We wanted to take a moment to explain a few things about our business, as we've recently received some feedback.
When we started Steelsmith's Smokehouse, our dream was simple: to share our passion for authentic BBQ with people who love great food. We've spent years competing in BBQ competitions, and we wanted to bring something a little different to Cornwall for everyone to enjoy.
As with any small business, we understand that not every decision will work for everyone. While most of the support we've received has been absolutely incredible, we have also received a few messages that were quite harsh. One appeared to come from an anonymous profile with no friends or posts, so we're not sure if it was simply someone trolling us.
Regardless, if any of our decisions have disappointed or inconvenienced anyone, we sincerely apologize.
We are a very small, family-run business consisting of just a husband, wife, and child. In addition to running the food trailer, we both have other employment, and Ian works extremely long hours—often seven days a week.
We are doing everything we can to balance our jobs, our family, and our passion for BBQ.
One thing we'd like to clarify is that reducing our operating days does not mean we're making less food (We just sell out). In fact, we're producing the same amount—and often even more—than when we first opened. Today alone, we served over 200 pounds of slow-smoked meat, along with multiple large roasting pans of our homemade sides.
When we arrive each day, our smokers and heated holding cabinets are completely full. Unfortunately, we have reached the maximum capacity of the equipment we currently have, so we simply cannot cook or hold additional food beyond that. Our decision to operate two days a week also allows us to accept the growing number of catering requests we've been receiving while continuing to manage our other jobs.
We never started Steelsmith's Smokehouse to become a large operation. We started it because we genuinely love BBQ and wanted to share that passion with our community.
Seeing so many people enjoy our food has meant more to us than words can express.
We truly appreciate every person who has supported us, encouraged us, shared our posts, waited in line, and chosen to spend their hard-earned money with our family. Your support has allowed us to continue doing something we love.
If any of our decisions have caused frustration or inconvenience, please know it was never our intention. We are doing the very best we can with the time and equipment we have, and we're always trying to improve while staying true to why we started this journey.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your patience, your understanding, and for supporting our little family business. It truly means the world to us.
—Ian, Melanie & Rylan
