Mums for Kids Helping busy mums feel good about their children's health & environment by providing ideas, research based knowledge, and eventually products. And our values

Our names are Bridget and Karen. We're two Mums who have a total of five children. We're also best friends. We share the same values around parenting, sustainability, social responsibility, food and health. We also have careers, friends, interests and aspirations. Sometimes it gets so busy, it's just not possible to live all our values day to day. From talking with friends and mums, we've realised

we're not the only one's that feel like it's a series of compromises. That's why we've started Mums for Kids. We've been developing a range of products for Mums, for their children to make life easier whilst compromising less on important values that nourish our children and their environment. That said, we're busy and cash strapped (sound familiar?). So, it might be a while before we sell a single product, but we've decided we can still share our passion, stories, knowledge and ideas.

My experience with getting kids to eat vegetables and how getting them to grow the vegies themselves has made a world of difference. http://mumsforkids.com.au/blog/30/11/2012/how-to-get-kids-to-eat-vegetables

How to get children to eat vegetablesLet them grow them themselves.Food is such a control point for children. We can't force them to eat so they use this as one of the earliest ways to exhibit their independence. Our focus gains them huge amounts of attention as we badger them and try all manner of ...

Growing and eating silverbeetI love silverbeet - it makes me feel like a great gardener!Silverbeet is a great vegetable for the patch. It’s so easy to grow, it's leafy and attractive (especially rainbow chard), and it grows almost all year, so there’s always something to pick and look at.BUT, the pr...

Yensha's has created a beautiful outdoor room with her veggie garden, extending her family's small living quarters in the process. See more here. http://mumsforkids.com.au/blog/27/10/2012/the-treetop-veggie-garden

The treetop veggie gardenYensha lives in the Grampians. To get to her house you drive along a very small, meandering driveway enclosed by trees. The first time we visited, my 2 ½ year old was terrified, with claustrophobic feelings! Yensha and her family have created a beautiful home, which is dubb...

The inner suburban small house living solution to vegetable gardening - the community garden. The high's and low's and a really cute video of Escher. http://mumsforkids.com.au/blog/25/10/2012/karens-vegie-patch

Karen's vegie patchMy house is tiny, as is my garden, and I have cats. So growing food at home hasn't been an option until recently (guerrilla gardening will be another blog topic) . Wherever I've lived I've always made an effort to grow the simple things, like parsley. Not least because it's ridicu...
