A statement from Palooka
Following the events of the past few days, we want to be absolutely clear about where Palooka stands.
Palooka does not condone domestic and family violence in any form, under any circumstances.
Domestic and family violence is a serious issue that causes profound and lasting harm to individuals, children, families and our wider community. There is no place for it, and nothing about recent events changes our position on that.
Sam has pleaded guilty to the offence before the Court and accepts responsibility for his actions. Sam has stepped away from Palooka and has no further involvement in the business. A decision he had made sometime ago.
The Palooka team had no involvement in these events and does not seek to excuse, minimise or defend the behaviour that led to them. Our staff are hardworking people who care deeply about each other, our guests and the community we serve.
We understand the anger and disappointment people feel, and we recognise why the community feels so strongly about domestic and family violence.
We simply ask that our team is not held responsible for the actions of an individual, and that Sam’s children and family are afforded the privacy they deserve.
Palooka remains committed to providing a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for our staff and guests.
We unequivocally condemn domestic and family violence. We believe everyone has the right to feel safe and respected, both at home and in our community.
