Dear friends,
This Sunday, January 19, will mark Khamsa’s final day. After 8 years of serving our community, we were unable to reach an agreement with the landlord of our new location in St Peters. This chapter of Khamsa is coming to an end but our story and what we stand for will continue.
Khamsa has always been more than a eatery. Every dish and every drink we served was a piece of Palestine, a connection to our roots, history, and spirit. In a time when our family in Gaza is enduring unimaginable suffering, and being massacred and ethnically cleansed, sharing our food has been an act of resistance. It is a reminder that even under the weight of vile oppressors, our identity lives on through the flavors, traditions, resilience and an everlasting hope for a free Palestine.
We want to thank our incredible suppliers, Stitch Coffee, Frutique, and Abu Salim, for standing by us. Our partnership was a cornerstone for our success.
To our remarkable staff, past and present, thank you for the dedication and heart you poured into Khamsa. You made this place a home for so many. If you need staff who are committed and super star at what they do please reach out to us as we would love to see them with new secure jobs to start next week!
To our community, thank you for your love and support. You turned Khamsa into a gathering place, a source of connection, and a beacon of Palestinian culture.
As we close our doors, we feel it’s important to shed light on the challenges small businesses like ours face. Without meaningful government support, places like Khamsa are increasingly at risk. We hope this sparks conversations about the need to protect the diversity and identity that small businesses bring to our communities.
We invite you to join us one last time before we close, to share a meal and honor what Khamsa has stood for.
Together, we will carry forward the spirit of Palestine, the strength of our people, and the stories that no landlord or system can take away.
Long live Palestine
Sarah and the Khamsa family
