PENY DROPS

4.30pm FRIDAY 4th SEPTEMBER
at Blackstar West End

Are the algorithms dividing us?
- let us know what you think

This Fridays question -
IMMIGRATION, GENUINE CONCERN OR MANUFACTURING FEAR?
- Renowned journalist and freedom of press advocate petergreste will be moderating the discussion.

PENY DROPS creates space for conversations about the big issues of our times.

DROPS is an event of PENYCLUB - Blackstars new supporter community. Named after the PENNY UNIVERSITIES of 17th-century London (a colloquial name for cafes back then) where big chats and public chats shaped culture and society. Which is how we’re vibing PENY.

Blackstar has its view on each topic. But Drops is not about what we as organisers think. It’s about creating space for dialogue; to unpack greater understanding on issues effecting our community.

A big driver behind Drops is growing concern that these kinds of debates are happening mostly on tech platforms owned by billionaires, with ai shaping what we see and farming content and reactions in ways that don’t benefit us locally.
