Drones...... Drones are the male honey bees of a colony. Their only purpose is to mate with a virgin Queen - mid air. Drones have no stingers, have massive eyes and larger bodies. They are born from unfertilized eggs laid by the Queen. They take 24 days to develop & hatch. Unlike the girls of the hive they don't have wax glands, pollen baskets or a long tongue for nectar collection. Poor Drones - because they don't perform any work & just eat the honey stores, the worker bees (girls) forcibly kick them out to starve to death in winter. For the few that do mate with the Queen in spring, even then they die. During the mating flight the drones reproductive organs detach & he falls & dies.

Honey Facts: Crystallisation. This is completely natural & a sign you have pure raw honey. Honey is made from Glucose & Fructose sugars, both come from nectar in flowers. The higher the glucose - the faster it crystallises. The higher the fructose the longer it stays liquid. Honey crystallises fastest around 10-15°c. So a warm house will keep it liquid longer. If it does start to go cloudy or have crystals on the bottom, just put the jar into a bath of warm water for a while or your hot toast/porridge will melt the crystals too!

I have just finished another batch of my pure beeswax & coconut oil polish. Very popular for all types of wood, furniture.
