It was a pleasure for club members to assist at this morning's event. Fighting the scourge of domestic and family violence is an important part of Kenmore Rotary's community service.

It was a pleasure on behalf of the Schrinner Council to receive a Certificate of Appreciation from Rotary Club of Kenmore, Australia for its support of the Solar Buddy programme and the Kenmore State High School Interact Club.

Through the Solar Buddy programme, Kenmore Rotary provides opportunities for local primary school children to build lights which are dispatched to disadvantaged communities to help end the cycle of energy poverty in those countries.

And by its support of the Kenmore High Interact Club, Rotary is helping students develop leadership skills and make a difference through community and international service projects.

Our Council is proud to support the objectives of both programmes through grants and other means to help the next generation understand and appreciate the importance of “service above self”.

Last night, we had the pleasure of welcoming two special guests from the Rotary Club of Kenmore in Queensland, Australia, to our Rotary Club of Invercargill North meeting.

It was wonderful to hear about the projects their club is involved in and to share ideas and fellowship across the Tasman. Rotary connections like these remind us that, no matter where we are in the world, we are united by a shared commitment to Service Above Self.

Thank you, Mary and David Kearney, for visiting us. We hope you enjoy the rest of your travels around New Zealand and wish you a safe and memorable journey!

Kenmore Rotarians are very pleased to be involved with this programme, helping the students prepare for their leadership roles. Thank you to Kenmore Village for their sponsorship, Kenmore State High School for their support of this club initiative, and June and Jason for their leadership of this project.

As we approach the induction of our new Student Leadership team, we would like to reflect on the partnership that we have developed with Rotary, who have delivered our Leadership For Life program for a few years now. The majority of our student leaders participate in this program which helps them prepare for the process of electing our new leaders. Thank you Rotary for all that you contribute to our school and community.

Friday night saw the Rotary Changeover ceremony, where President Margaret de Wit handed over the reins for the new Rotary year.
This year, in a change of procedure, three past presidents will take on the presidency, with Jason Pole taking the first period, followed by Martin Grabert, and then Patrick Cook.
We were honoured to be joined by District Governor Ian Hope, who officiated. We were also joined by our new inbound Rotary Exchange student, Marketa.

Our Community Pantry at Kenmore Village collection is still running. We are amassing quite a collection of groceries but more are needed. If you can help by popping one or more extra items in your shopping, and dropping them into the big box outside Fiori Coffee Shop, that would be greatly appreciated.
The collection will run until the first week in August - maybe drop in something every time you visit Kenmore Village - partnering with Kenmore Rotary.

Today President Margaret, with club members Sud, David and Mary, handed over 10 Shelterbags to Major Michelle Myles at Inala Salvation Army. These bags are designed for comfort and protection for those sleeping rough, and will be very useful with the current wet and cool weather.

World Environment Day – Recycling in Action
Kenmore members joined other Rotarians for a morning of sorting donated medical and educational materials to be sent to remote communities, mainly in the Pacific. This community service project, RARE (Rotary Australia Repurposing Equipment), is an arm of RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service).

The programme gives us a great chance to do some hands-on work, knowing that the equipment loaded into the containers will have a second life, while the recipients receive much needed materials for their schools and medical centres.
