As chefs and restaurant owners, we spend hours every week making our house made desserts, alongside hand selecting some from our favourite local patisserie. We currently have 8 different cakes and treats available.
It becomes quite disheartening when a group rocks up with a cake from Woolies and starts eating it with no prior communication with us.
If you’ve chosen to dine with us because you’ve heard our food is good, why not try everything we have to offer?
It sucks having to throw away unsold cakes that we’ve spent so long preparing (read - give to staff).

After nearly 10 years operating as Melbourne’s only 100% vegan pizzeria, we are happy to let you know we are now Vegan Australia accredited.

What does this mean? Quite simply - I filled out a form online and spent 5 minutes answering 10 multiple choice questions (that you can get wrong and then resubmit). There were no inspections of our restaurant, no conversation with a human about what ingredients we use or what our procedures are for storing and handling ingredients and no observing of what the reality of working in a busy kitchen at 7pm on a Friday night is really like.

The questions I had to answer ranged from the obvious (carrots are vegan!) to straight up promoting their own business (use our app, don’t speak to suppliers!). Others seem to be opinion based, and maybe not reflective of the vegan community as a whole, allowing for some things I personally wouldn’t expect from a vegan accredited business. Regardless, all the answers were on the screen in front of me making it impossible to fail.

While I understand that clear vegan labelling is great in theory and should make things easier for us vegans to dine out, I’m not left feeling more confident eating at one restaurant over another just because they completed this online form and have this trademark printed out. I would love to see some actual inspecting of businesses alongside discussions with chefs/owners, as unfortunately within my 20+ years working in kitchens, I have witnessed non vegan ingredients being used in dishes advertised as vegan multiple times. I would love to be able to put some trust in vegan accreditation, but for now it seems like it’s giving false expectations to customers and serves mainly as a marketing ploy for the restaurants and a revenue stream for the organisation by locking restaurants into a subscription if they want to remain accredited.

New pizza special dropping tonight. Inspired by a recent trip to Vietnam, we’ve reduced a pho broth and used it as our base sauce and topped it with oyster mushrooms, enoki, meaty mushroom chunks and mozzarella. Finished with plenty of Vietnamese herbs, sriracha and spring onions.

We’ve had multiple groups of tables turn up at the old location this week. So if you haven’t got the memo yet, here’s the details:

We moved to 60 Rose St, Fitzroy in October last year.
It’s a 10 minute straight walk from the old location, located between Brunswick St and Nicholson St (number 11 or 96 tram).
Open Wednesday - Sunday
Indoor seating all week, courtyard and rooftop bar open Friday - Sunday.
Open Wed - Friday evenings and all day long from 10am on Saturday Sunday serving up pizza, sandwiches, burgers, coffee, cocktails, beer & wine.
Pet friendly (Friday-Sunday in our outdoor areas), kid friendly, accessible entrance and facilities.

Devastating news - for reasons beyond our control, our GOAT pizza will no longer be on the menu after this week. We’ve not got many serves left, and since it’s our second most popular pizza, we’ll probably keep it off delivery so you’ll have to come in and visit us this week.
