Our cake of the month is Baklava!

There are many theories for its origin, from West Asia, Southern Europe, Central Asia to North Africa.

But it is definitely a part of French culture. You find amazing Baklava all around France. And my favourite place to have it, is at the Paris Great Mosque with a mint tea. And it’s an amazing building. I would highly recommend to go and visit it :)

More History on Macaron.

Did you know about the Macaron Sisters?

During the French Revolution, two nuns called Marguerite Gaillot and Marie-Élisabeth Morlot, left their convent after religious orders were forced out.

To pay for their housing, they started their small business in the town of Nancy selling the crackling top, almond biscuits.

That popularised the treat, leading to the famous Maison des Sœurs Macarons legacy that continues today.

At Pain Perdu, you can get a single macaron for $3.5 or get 4 for $12.

Be quick!

Where do the traditional macarons come from?

The earliest macarons in their simple version started in the 8th Century in Italian monasteries.

In 1533, Catherine de Medici (an Italian noblewoman) married French King Henry II and brought the recipe to the French royal court.

For centuries, traditional macarons were baked as single, plain, domed crust biscuits without any fillings or vibrant colors.

And that’s how we like them at Pain Perdu!
