As someone who has suffered with allergies and intolerances for over 20 years I can more than relate to the challenges that come with having to navigate my own dietary needs with the full spectrum of situations we find ourselves in, from those who just don’t understand to those who just plain don’t care.
We started this business for that exact reason, our business plan was to operate exclusively at food markets offering gluten free desserts, having been in endless situations where my options when out were narrow at best, or sometimes non existent.
After trading for over 2 years and meeting many wonderful people we have come to appreciate that there is a much wider community that struggles with food options whether that is through allergies, intolerances or purely for preference. We discovered that many of our customers have secondary allergies or intolerances and that no two people are the same, there is much complexity. With this in mind our business has also evolved and we are heading in directions that our original business concept does not account for.
We have found when advertising at Markets that our current name inhibits us, there are those who are turned off because of our name, this has been challenging whilst we know we have many customers who love our products and embrace what we do, there is a reality to finding appeal with a broader customer base.
We chose the name Picky after much consideration, I understand some may feel the word has stigma, that is certainly not why we chose it. It really was quite the opposite, the last thing we would ever want to do is alienate those who we aim to serve. It’s about signalling to our community that we specialise. That we will make it easy for you to pick and chose food that is safe for you, that we will create an environment where you have options, and selection will be easy, there will be no embarrassment or worry, we understand.
