AND SOME SUNDAYS REQUIRE A VERY GOOD PLAYLIST! ☔🎷🍩😂

Ohhh Akoonah… Mother Nature really did turn on the taps today!

After yesterday’s fabulous SOLD OUT adventure at Bushman’s Deli, we rolled into our usual Sunday spot at Akoonah ready for another lovely market day.

And then…

RAIN.

More rain.

And just when we thought it might ease up…

EVEN MORE RAIN! 🤣☔

There I was inside TP, surrounded by gorgeous fresh donuts, watching the puddles grow and wondering whether counting raindrops might qualify as a new market-day hobby. 😂

BUT our beautiful customers didn’t completely abandon us!

A few hardy souls appeared through the rain, jumping puddles and making their way to TP’s serving window for a little sugar-kissed happiness. 🥹🍩💛

And I have to tell you…

I’d discovered a fabulous new speakeasy playlist, which seemed rather appropriate for good old TP and his Roaring Twenties heritage.

So while Melbourne was doing its best impression of a monsoon outside…

We were having ourselves a little 1920s jazz party inside! 🎷🎶😂

Hot fresh donuts.

Rain drumming on the roof.

A little speakeasy atmosphere.

And some absolutely gorgeous customer interactions in between.

Was it our busiest Sunday? Not even close! 😂

Did we manage to have ourselves a rather lovely, soggy little ball anyway?

ABSOLUTELY! 💛

SIX LITTLE DONUTS. SIX VERY BIG PERSONALITIES. 😂🍩🌈

And apparently they all need to look suitably fabulous before leaving TP! 😏💗

There’s something I absolutely LOVE about putting together one of these gorgeous little boxes of OMG happiness.

The sugar-kissed donuts are ready…

The chocolate drizzle comes out…

Then those cheeky pink sprinkles make their entrance. 🌈✨

And suddenly we’ve got a whole box of little show-offs looking rather pleased with themselves. 😂🍩

I know, I know…

It’s just me getting somebody’s donut order ready.

But these are the little moments behind the scenes at OMG Casey that make me smile.

Every donut dressed with a little love, a little personality and occasionally a rather generous helping of sprinkles! 🥰💗

And then off they go from TP’s serving window to make somebody’s day.

Although I do wonder…

When you open a box like this, do you carefully choose your favourite?

Or do you immediately start negotiating with everyone else about who gets WHAT? 😂🍩

Because I have witnessed some VERY serious donut negotiations at that serving window! 🤣💕

Well, apparently ONE donut wasn’t quite enough for tonight’s entertainment. 😂🍩

So we stacked TWO.

Naturally.

And then brought out the knife. 🔪😏

Ohhhh, there’s something ridiculously satisfying about watching fresh, fluffy, sugar-kissed donuts being sliced up.

But TWO at once?

Now we’re just showing off. 😂🤤

Just two gorgeous OMG donuts, a knife, and those lovely little cutting sounds that apparently we all find far more entertaining than we probably should. 🤣🍩

I popped in to visit Maria, Del, Amelia and the lovely deli gang, have a little look around, put up our promotional goodies and work out where good old Tenacious Pete will be making himself at home.

And WOW… these guys are already getting into the Halloween spirit! 🕷️😂

So we’re joining the fun!

Our little pink princess has always been a bit of a show-off.

But apparently one of her cheeky young regulars decided she needed a whole new look!

A gorgeous little mix of berry goodness, finished with those fabulous pink sprinkles.

And honestly?

I think she’s rather enjoying all the attention. 😏😂

One of my favourite things about serving from TP is watching customers dream up their own delicious little combinations.

Sometimes they know exactly what they want.

And sometimes they invent something I wish I’d thought of first! 😂🍩

Ohhh, you really turned it on today!

The weather was absolutely gorgeous, our lovely customers were out enjoying the sunshine, and TP was a very happy little vintage caravan indeed. 🥰

And the DONUTS!

From the ever-faithful classic Cinnamon to our fruity spring favourite Tutti Frutti, there was plenty of sugar-kissed happiness heading out the serving window today. 🍩🌈

We even had some rather creative flavour requests from our cheeky young regulars…

Apparently Piink-a-Boo is quite happy to swap her usual outfit for a little Tutti Frutti sugar, Salted Caramel drizzle and those gorgeous pink sprinkles! 😂💗

Who knew she was such a fashionista?!

But there was ONE particularly popular fellow today…

CHOC CHOC CHARLEY! 🍫👑

Honestly, that chocolatey little show-off just kept trotting off TP’s serving shelf all morning! 😂

And here’s one of those lovely little real-life moments I love capturing — serving up Charley himself to Paul, who made sure he got in nice and early for his donut fix. 😏🍩

I THINK THIS MIGHT BE MY FAVOURITE 6-PACK REQUEST EVER. 🥹🍩

One of my beautiful regular customers, Courtney, came to the TP window on Sunday and ordered a box of six.

Nothing particularly unusual about that.

Until she asked me for one little favour.

Normally I write the flavours inside the lid so you know exactly which sugar-kissed goodies you’ve got.

But this time she said:

“Instead of the flavours… could you write something else for me?”

Of course!

Then she told me what she wanted written:

“Will you walk me down the aisle?”

🥹💛🍩

Ohhhhh.

I had to hold myself together while I wrote that one!

She’s getting married in a couple of weeks and needed to ask one very special person one very special question.

And apparently…

OMG donuts had been recruited for the job. 😂🍩💍

So I made her a gorgeous surprise mix of flavours, wrote her message inside the box and watched those six little donuts head off on possibly the most important mission I’ve ever given them.

I’ve always said donuts bring people together.

Over the years I’ve watched them become part of birthdays, weddings, workplaces, celebrations, thank-yous, family traditions and countless little everyday moments.

But this one?

This one was pretty special. 🥹💛

Who knew our donuts were quite THIS versatile? 😂🍩

WELL… SOMEBODY DECIDED SHE WAS READY FOR HER CLOSE-UP TODAY. 🐶🍩😂

It was a sleepy little start at Akoonah this morning.

I’m blaming daylight saving. 😂⏰

But we had a lovely busy patch towards the end — and amongst all today’s Sunday goodness, one of our very special regulars decided it was finally time to take a starring role.

RENN. 💛🐶

She turned up bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and honestly looking like she’d done herself up especially for her weekly trip to Akoonah for her donut fix. 😂✨

She had Rebecca, her human, in tow.

Rebecca behaved beautifully.

Renn…

PUT ON A SHOW. 🤣

Standing to attention.

Watching.

Waiting.

Eyes firmly fixed on that precious little piece of donut…

And when it came flying through the air — UP SHE WENT! 🐶🍩🙌

By this point Renn had attracted her own little audience, who were watching and cheering her on.

You couldn’t script this stuff. 😂💛

But then came my favourite part.

As they were leaving, I was telling Rebecca what a good girl Renn is.

And Rebecca casually says:

“Oh, Renn’s not food driven at all… she’s DONUT driven.”

😂😂😂

And suddenly Renn’s entire weekly relationship with TP made perfect sense.

NOT FOOD DRIVEN.

DONUT DRIVEN. 🐶🍩

To everyone who came by today — particularly our daylight-saving crowd who eventually found us 😂 and gave us that fabulous little rush towards the finish — THANK YOU.

These funny, gorgeous little moments with our regulars are such a big part of why I love my Sundays at Akoonah. 💛
