I have had a few discussions lately with parents about being their childs advocate. The good, the bad and the frustrating. I came across this article which is quite good at outlining the steps. It is from America so the suggested links are not valid for us, however I will also post a link to a website which outlines the state and commonwealth regulations in Australia.

Learning the essential skills to become your child's advocate and ensure your child receives an appropriate education does not require lots of money or even years of schooling. All it requires is learning five basic skills and consistently implementing them within the school community.
