When contaminated seafood reaches a plate, recall time matters. Traceability means tracing every step back to the source, whether it’s an aquaculture farm or the vast ocean, fast enough to pull the problem before it spreads.

Our Co-CEO Scott Chambers talks about why traceability isn’t optional in seafood. Full episode on the LinkTree in our bio🎙️

🎣 Your tin says mackerel, but it might not be.

A major UK supermarket chain just swapped species. Cheaper fish but with nearly identical shelf price and less Omega-3.

The species changed, but the label barely did.

This is what happens when supply chains run on blind trust instead of proper verification. Multiply it across a $2 trillion industry feeding a third of the planet, and “trust us” stops being good enough.

Traceability isn’t just paperwork. It’s the only thing standing between what you’re sold and what you actually get.

“Trust increases value.” 🎙️

Too many steps between catch and plate, a product that has to move fast before it spoils, and a fillet on your dinner plate that looks nothing like the fish it came from.

Our take: traceability isn’t just about compliance. It’s what protects the value for the people who caught it in the first place.

One grower. 32 states. 431 people sick before the source was found. 🌶️

This summer’s Salmonella outbreak was traced the old-fashioned way: patient interviews instead of digital records. That’s why the recall rolled out in stages while contaminated product was still moving.

The rule that would require real-time, lot-level tracking for high-risk foods like peppers? Delayed to 2028.

Swipe to see how a traceability gap turns one bad shipment into a month-long, multi-state investigation; and why closing that gap is the whole point of what we do →

The problem was never the seafood. It was the paper trail.

Small-scale fishers in the UAE have been catching quality product without the infrastructure to prove where it came from. Hotels and high-end restaurants have wanted to buy local, but no data trail means no verification, and no verification means no deal.

That’s the gap Seafood Souq closes.

Our agreement with the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment digitises local fisheries and builds a formal brand for UAE-caught seafood and aquaculture.

What changes:
🐟 Local catch becomes verifiable
📊 Buyers get data they can actually act on
🌊 Small-scale fishers gain access to a market that traceability — not product quality — was keeping shut

1 in 5 seafood products sold globally is mislabeled 🚫

It’s not random, it’s structural.

Paper trails break down exactly where fraud is most profitable, and no single link in the chain.

Traceability isn’t a feature. It’s proof.

A 300% price differential from mislabeling alone.

One hotel: ~$80,000/year lost to it.

The problem isn’t always the supplier, it’s what information does (or doesn’t) make it down the chain to them.

That’s the real cost of an opaque supply chain and why sustainability teams, hotels, and now retail and catering are demanding transparency tools that actually work at the supplier level, not just the buyer level.
