: โHimeji Castleโ in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, was, in fact, the first official World Heritage Site ever in Japan!
The castle is one of 12 original Japanese castles. It was never seized, burned, or somehow destroyed. Himeji Castle is frequently known as Hakuro-jล or Shirasagi-jล ("White Egret Castle" or "White Heron Castle") because of its brilliant white exterior and supposed resemblance to a bird taking flight.
